Carbonplace — Carbon Credit Trading Platform

Overview

Carbonplace is a trading platform that lets financial institutions buy and sell voluntary carbon credits. When I joined, the product existed only as a concept. The challenge was turning that into a working platform fast, without cutting corners on the parts a financial institution needs to trust.

My Role & Approach

I led the architecture and delivery end to end, working directly with the CTO as part of the technology leadership team. I built out and led the engineering team, set the technical direction, and put in place the standards and delivery practices needed to move quickly without accumulating risk, including the automated testing framework that underpinned delivery from early on. I later led the engineering work behind our ISO 27001 and SOC 2 certification programmes.

Outcome

We took the platform from concept to MVP within three months. The foundations we put down then (architecture, testing, engineering standards) carried through into the compliance certifications and the platform's continued growth.
