    interop.io / Finsemble

Re-engineered platform startup time from 181s to 20s, plus FDC3 industry standards work.

    Senior Software / Solutions Engineer · Nov 2020 – Sep 2023

    Overview

Finsemble is interop.io's desktop interoperability platform. It lets financial institutions wire together multiple desktop apps so data and workflows flow between them instead of living in silos. In large desktop environments, startup time had crept up to over three minutes, undermining the whole pitch of an interop platform: it's supposed to make the desktop faster to work in, not slower.

    My Role & Approach

I dug into the platform's core services to find where the 181 seconds was actually going: profiling startup sequencing, service initialization order, and unnecessary blocking work, then re-engineered those services to load faster and in parallel where it made sense. Alongside the product engineering, I represented interop.io in industry standards efforts, co-authoring the FDC3 Agent Bridging specification to help define how interoperability should work across the wider financial desktop ecosystem, not just within Finsemble itself.

    Outcome

Startup time in large desktop environments dropped from 181 seconds to 20 seconds. The FDC3 Agent Bridging spec shipped as a contribution to the broader industry standard, extending interoperability patterns beyond any single vendor's platform.
